Western Europe Is Melting Under the Hot Sun and They Have Only Themselves to Blame

One of the easiest social media trends to follow of late is the talk about the scorching temperatures in cities and towns encompassing the entirety of Western Europe. The heat dome that is causing apoplexy across vast stretches of the continent - including the UK – are causing some across the pond to publicly latest that the extreme temperatures they are experiencing are entirely the fault of those silly uncultured Americans who have the audacity to utilize AC as routine, from sea-to-shining sea.

Damn them!

Yeah, it's probably ridiculous to actually see such nonsense in writing, but an example of this America is to blame chatter comes from Audrey Pulvar, the Deputy Mayor of France.

In an online post Pulvar stated, “...As the second-largest emitter of greenhouse gas emissions in the world, you bear a significant amount of responsibility for global warming and the consequences we, in France, are experiencing. ...Your cities, which are 90 percent air conditioned, are not unrelated to this."

Not only is the statement absurd but it is the height of hubris to blame American homes, businesses and public buildings with central air conditioning, for the misery in France during this heat wave.

Note that Deputy Mayor did not mention the millions of homes in China, or across the entire Asian continent where the populations are comfortable in their humble abodes simply because of that cool, refreshing air flowing out of their AC units.

Is there anyone foolish enough, not to believe that there isn’t AC in every large city and town in South America, or in Australia, ready for use, come their summertime months?

Of course, Aubrey Pulvar isn't alone. There are many more of her ilk wo are more than willing to write a confrontational social media post, or speak into a microphone, in order to blame the uncultured Americans and their uncaring excesses, for the blanket of hot air that is suffocating their cities.

Someone should suggest to Aubrey, that blaming the Yanks for everything, is not going to make a bit of a difference.

The idea that there are thousands of elderly people in supposedly First World countries who are literally GOING TO DIE in the next few days and weeks, because of the stubborn cultural arrogance of societies that refuse to change, or at the very least meet a problem halfway, in order to find a solution, that might be difficult, but doable.

Logic escapes how it is possible that there are hospitals in some European cities that are not equipped with central AC - during a miserable heatwave where temperatures have lingered for days near 100F/38C. This is an inconceivable failure in the duty of the government to provide for the welfare of the public.

Hospitals not only handle emergencies, there other are contingencies to consider, such as births, planned surgeries, physical therapy and the like. All having to be handled in dire, unhealthy conditions that wouldn’t be found in a third world situation where the local hospital is the only indication that advanced civilization even exists.

Global warming is real. There is no question on that account. However, people still have to live and being miserable is not part of the bargain.

Eventually our European friends will find a solution that works for them. Just leave the United States out of it. No AC in the year 2026. That’s their mistake to own up to.
