Both the 1950s and the 1960s produced a ton of god-awful science fiction movies, that despite the dreadfulness of the product, were entertaining on some level. The public was subjected to incredible shrinking men, giant 50-foot-tall women who towered over the treetops, cyclops-eyed aliens with tentacles sprouting from their heads, humongous spiders, ants and wasps, and of course, the familiar little green men with their large unblinking oval eyes, skinny arms and legs and tiny feet.
Though, in truth the iconic image of what intelligent humanoid beings from outer space might look like, probably belongs to the 1970s more than anything.
Oh, and let’s not forget, the special effects level of these early films was excruciatingly crude compared to modern cinema.
Now with an actual repeat moon landing scheduled by NASA for no earlier than 2028, nature abhors a vacuum and into this quiet space a whistle blower who quit his job at Anthropic and OpenAI in September 2926, has sounded the alarm about the dangers of superintelligence and the threat that computers, that are too damn smart for their own good, might pose to humanity.
